Orthodontic treatment for kids, teens and adults

PORTH is a boutique orthodontic clinic next to the Metropolitan Market in Sammamish.  Dr. Rooz and his team offer personalized orthodontic care  for patients of all ages.

Early orthodontic treatment – Phase I

We believe in a conservative treatment approach in children, rather than over treatment. In line with the American Association of Orthodontists’ recommendations, Dr. Rooz likes to see kids around 7 years old for a free consultation and early screening.

Although a dentist’s recommendation is not required for your child to get started with an orthodontist, we do communicate all records, including x-rays taken at this first consultation, with their dentist to ensure a cohesive approach to their dental health. We believe in interdisciplinary dental care in dentistry and encourage all families to identify a general dentist or a pediatric dentist for their children.

The goal of this first ortho appointment is for you and your family to get familiar with our clinic and to learn more about future orthodontic care options. Our fully digital clinic was designed to create a calm and comfortable experience for kids.

During their early screening appointment, children are assessed for whether they will need Phase 1 braces. The majority of early screening patients do not require early treatment (Phase 1 braces), and will be scheduled for regular check-ups every 4-6 months.

Some of our young patients do, however, require early braces to:

1) correct skeletal problems, such as a cross bite in the back teeth;

2) modify grown of upper or lower jaws; or,

3) manage spaces for adult teeth in crowded dentition.

Dr. Rooz also works with well known oral surgeons in greater Seattle area to provide corrective jaw surgeries to older teens (17-19 years old).

Aesthetic adult orthodontics

Dr. Rooz is highly specialized in cosmetic orthodontic care for adult patients who are concerned about traditional braces and the aesthetic appearance of ortho appliances. Cosmetic dentistry has changed. Part of cosmetic dentistry if to provide orthodontic treatment to improve the overall oral health using lingual braces or clear aligners.

PORTH is one of very few clinics in greater Seattle that offers lingual braces, which are braces that are adhered behind the teeth. Lingual braces are the only truly invisible option for adults who are not interested in alternative orthodontic appliances, such as ceramic braces, Invisalign or clear aligners.

Another great option for adults who are concerned about aesthetics are PORTH aligners (a great alternative to metal brackets). These are fully customized aligners that are digitally fabricated at our clinic under the full control of Dr. Rooz. Also, maintaining a good oral hygiene is easier with aligners. Our adult patients are extremely happy with the quality of care and treatment time with PORTH aligners.

Adult patients who are interested in traditional metal braces or self-ligating braces treatment plan will benefit from the digital technology to position these braces. This technology often results in shorter treatment time and higher quality of care. We also use this technology for teens patients.

Interdisciplinary orthodontic care

Providing high quality care is a cornerstone of our clinic, and sometimes that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Dr. Rooz works with various local dental specialists and dentists (DDS/DMD) to offer complex orthodontic treatment for patients who require multidisciplinary care. These cases of orthodontic treatment involve care for patients with multiple missing teeth, cleft palate and lip, severe skeletal jaw problems. A combination of specialized and general dentistry is required to plan and render the care for such patients.

Trained at University of Washington, one of the leading orthodontic programs in the country with an emphasis on interdisciplinary care, Dr. Rooz is the course director of interdisciplinary seminar series and work closely with his UW graduate peers (general dentists and specialists), to deliver such multidisciplinary care – dental implants, complex veneers, partial dentures along with other dental services.

Dr. Rooz is the director of the interdisciplinary clinic and seminars at the UW orthodontic department.

Retainers

PORTH retainers are customized clear retainers made from 3D printed models of your teeth in their ideal position to help maintain your new smile after treatment is complete. After you’ve come to the clinic for a digital scan for your retainers, you can order your removable retainers online here.

We also offer in-clinic professional teeth whitening. Please contact us if you are interested to learn more about this treatment option.
