What Is An Orthodontic Consultation?
An orthodontic consultation is the first step to your treatment journey. Before we can decide on your treatment, you must meet with our orthodontic experts to assess your oral health. Dr. Rooz will check your teeth, gums, and jaw during your consultation. He will then create a personalized treatment plan for your ideal smile.
On average, an orthodontic consultation will take about 30 to 60 minutes to complete. During this time, you will meet staff, learn more about digital orthodontics (if this is your first time being scanned), and discuss treatment and payment options. Our team will walk you through costs, treatment timelines and the pros/cons for each of your options. It’s a good idea to do some research beforehand and come in with any of your questions prepared!
You can visit our office for a consultation, or have a virtual consultation at your convenience with no obligation.
The process for virtual consultations is very similar to in-person consultations. You can consult with Dr. Rooz virtually from any location. You will still receive personalized feedback on your options.
Your first orthodontic consultation
Orthodontic journey starts with the first visit to orthodontists consultation. You can book an appointment for this visist or be referred by your dentist. The orthodontist check misalignment of your teeth, evalulate your bite, check you teeth for presence of gum disease, review your dental history. The orthodontic treatment at the same time check your dental insurance, get information on your dental work, the date of your last cleaning and oral hygiene from your dentist.
Who Will You See During Your First Appointment?
When you arrive for your first visit, check in with our receptionist. Then, one of our orthodontic assistants will take you to a treatment chair and greet you. At PORTH, our treatment coordinator will work with you during this appointment. We use advanced digital orthodontic technology and have a trained team to assess your smile at the beginning of your appointment.
One of orthodontic assistants will complete an oral examination by taking a digital scan of your mouth to evaluate the position of your teeth and how your jaw comes together in our digital software. We will also check your dental and medical history for any dental or medical conditions.
Dr. Rooz will review all your records to determine what orthodontic problems you have. Then he will review the treatment options for you and creates a personalized treatment plan for you. We will also talk about orthodontic retainers. The next appointment you will get your appliances such as PORTH aligners placed on your teeth and start your treatment.
Are X-rays Taken at the Braces Consultation?
We strive to offer a comprehensive orthodontic consultation to all new patients. To this end, we need to take x-rays to see adult or child’s teeth. Our clinic policy is to limit radiation exposure by collaborating with your dentist to ensure patients are not overexposed.
A panoramic x-ray helps Dr. Rooz see any issues under your gums, like tooth roots. The panoramic type of x-ray is different from a traditional radiograph that your dentist takes. This X-ray helps us find issues like “bone abnormalities and fractures, cysts, impacted teeth, infections and tumors.”
There are several benefits to performing a panoramic x-ray during your initial consultation, such as:
- Improved care. Our team will be able to see how your head, neck, and jaw work together. This will help determine which orthodontic appliance will best suit your needs.
- Earlier detection. Panoramic x-rays allows our team to see any problems before they arise or become worse.
- Identify oral changes. If you’ve had a panoramic x-ray before, we can see if there have been any changes in your oral alignment.
- Beneficial for any age. For children, a panoramic x-ray can help an orthodontist track their oral development. For adults, it can help identify any abnormalities in their oral cavity.
